Volunteering

“I really enjoyed my time working as a volunteer at BDAC.  The staff are the main asset of BDAC they are an excellent crew and anyone volunteering to work for BDAC will enjoy it and be the richer for it in terms of experience and fulfilment.”

The benefits of volunteering with BDAC

Volunteering is a great opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people and gain valuable experience for the workplace.  In addition your contribution will make a huge difference to what we are able to achieve for people in financial hardship.

If you decide to volunteer with BDAC full training on your chosen role will be given and we’ll be interested to know what career aspirations you have so that we can tailor your experience to suit that if possible.  For example volunteering as an ASW (see below) is often a popular choice with law students as they receive an insight into the legal advice process and  gain the opportunity to work directly with clients.

If  you are interested in volunteering with us, there are a range of potential opportunities including:

  • Energy Team Volunteer: Our thriving energy advice project tackles fuel poverty in the south west, helping people stay warm and save money in their homes. We are looking for volunteers to assist with a range of administrative tasks for the project, with scope for development. Full training for the role will be given.
  • Advice Support Worker (ASW): As an ASW you’ll fulfil a vital role supporting our specialist debt advice team with their caseload. Duties of the role can range from dealing with basic creditor correspondence  to providing support to clients with charitable applications and forms.

(please note that these roles and may or may not be available at any given time)

.
We are also always interested in hearing from professionals who would like to offer their time.  Skills in finance, marketing and fundraising are always very welcome.
