What's the idea behind leaving a message on the BDAC Wall?
The BDAC wall is a place to show support and understanding for those experiencing problem debt in the UK - a starting place to reduce the isolation and stigma attached to debt. Your message can be an image, photo or words of support.
What are the proceeds used for?
Any revenue from the BDAC Wall will be recycled back into BDAC to support the 21st birthday campaign and to provide free to client advice services.
What is a pixel?
A computer screen is made up of tiny pixels. On the BDAC Wall the pixels are grouped together into blocks of several pixels so that your message can be seen (one pixel alone would only be a pin prick!)
How much does it cost to leave a message?
The cost is £1 for 400 pixels – you can buy as many blocks as you like! Contact us if you have a question…
What happens after I submit my message?
After you submit your message your space will be reserved and your message will be checked before being added to the BDAC Wall.
What are the causes of Problem Debt?
Problem debt often affects the most vulnerable in society and the root causes are complex; related to disability, mental illness, unemployment and life changing events such as relationship breakdown or loss of a job – events that can happen to anyone. Poor education and literacy also contribute to the difficulties people face in managing their money. The experiences of the people we see are far removed from common misperceptions that people in debt are simply irresponsible and show that anyone can experience these problems.
What does BDAC do?
Many people experiencing problem debt in the UK do not have the knowledge or support to manage their debt and are left short of money for basic needs like food, clothing, heating and medicine. This is story we see at BDAC every week. We serve people in the Bristol area by providing free face to face debt advice, energy advice and financial capability services. We also tackle institutional problems through our social policy team. Find out more about us on our website http://www.bdac.org.uk/
What is the result of money advice?
Our Advisers help people regain control of their finances by making a statement of their incomings, outgoings and their debts. They explain their rights, the options available to them and agree a plan to move forward and resolve their debt issues: this can be anything from an affordable repayment plan to a personal insolvency option. The plan is tailored to the individual's needs: the amount of ongoing support offered by BDAC is dependant on what the person's capabilities are, we can help you as much or little as you like.
How long will the site be on the net?
The site will be up for at least one year and will ultimately be turned into a print available to purchase. More details on this will be posted on the BDAC website in the future.
Where did the idea come from?
The isolation felt by many in debt and the misunderstanding surrounding debt is an issue we've been aware of for a long time. The BDAC Wall provides a space for people to show solidarity and understanding of the root causes of debt. The idea of selling pixels was originally used by a student called Alex Tew who began selling them as advertisements to raise money for university. Since then it has been adopted by several charities as a means to support campaigns and funds.
